Find a Natural Area
Lands protected within the Arkansas Natural Heritage Commission's System of Natural Areas comprise some of the state's most ecologically significant
areas. In many cases, these areas protect natural communities that have all but vanished from Arkansas.
Removal of plants and animals from natural areas is strictly forbidden, with the exception of legally taken game and fish (see current AGFC hunting regulations). Travel within natural areas is limited to foot traffic in order to minimize erosion and disturbance to sensitive habitats. Motorized vehicles, horses, camping, and construction of permanent hunting stands are prohibited on natural areas. Go to our Visit a Natural Area for guidelines on natural area visitation and a list of natural areas where hunting is allowed.
