Chalk Bluff Hiking Trail

Chalk Bluff Natural Area

Description:

Chalk Bluff is situated on the northern end of the Arkansas portion of Crowley's Ridge where the St. Francis River cuts through the ridge and divides Missouri's "boot heel" from Arkansas. Prominent knolls, ridges, dramatic valleys, and ravines make the site a varied and interesting environment. The natural area was also the site of the Battle of Chalk Bluff in 1863.

The trailhead at Chalk Bluff is located just past a playground and consists of a paved, universally accessible 0.25 segment that leads down to a view of the St. Francis River. The remainder of the trail (less than 1.5 miles) is a primitive footpath. Interpretive panels along the trail provide information on the history of the area. This is a trail well-suited for young children.
