New Free Permit Required for WMAs

Arkansas Natural Heritage Commission - Monday, October 30, 2017

As you may know, the ANHC has a cooperative agreement with the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission (AGFC) that incorporates many of our natural areas within the AGFC’s Wildlife Management Area (WMA) system in order to permit specific forms of hunting, maintain safety, protect healthy wildlife populations, and adhere to the conservation values of our System of Natural Areas. The AGFC has created a new General Use WMA Permit required of anyone who hunts, traps, fishes, or boats on a WMA. The permit replaces the previous Sweet 16 WMA Permit and the Bayou Meto Boating Access Permit.

The permit is free and can be obtained at any licensed vendor, by calling 800-364-4263, or visiting https://ar-web.s3licensing.com . It can be added as a code to your existing license or obtained on its own. More information about the permit can be found at https://www.agfc.com/en/news/2017/08/02/free-permit-needed-for-wildlife-management-areas/ .

A list of natural areas that permit hunting can be found on our website at www.naturalheritage.com/Natural_Areas/visit-a-natural-area
