2007-08: Arkansas Box Turtle Survey
Box turtles are one of the most

recognized turtles in Arkansas. Their name comes from their ability to completely close up inside their shell. Almost everyone can describe an encounter with a box turtle. Perhaps you helped one cross a road. Maybe you found one laying eggs in your flower garden. A meeting with a box turtle usually leaves a pleasant memory. In 2007 and 2008, the Arkansas Natural Heritage Commission invited people across the state to join in their efforts to learn more about the status of these reptiles.
