Palmetto Flats Natural Area is the largest contiguous block of alluvial terrace forest remaining in the Red River Valley in Arkansas. It contains large, high-quality examples of rare wet hardwood and pine-hardwood flatwoods with a dwarf palmetto understory as well as seeps, upland mound woodlands, forested sloughs, and marshes.

Directions

From Ashdown take State Highway 32 west approximately 5.2 miles to Richmond Road (Little River 21). Turn left (south) on Richmond Road and drive for about 5.6 miles. Turn right (north) onto a dirt road. Travel for 0.25 miles to the natural area boundary. A parking area is located one mile north on the east side of the road. This area may be seasonally inaccessible due to flooding. (Directions via Google)
