North Little Rock Middle School Students Job Shadow at ANHC

Arkansas Natural Heritage Commission - Wednesday, April 27, 2016

Eighth graders Peyton Greenwood (pictured left) and Mary Hill (pictured right) spent several hours shadowing ANHC staff in March as part of the North Little Rock Chamber of Commerce and North Little Rock School District’s CareerConnect program. CareerConnect is a new career readiness program for eighth graders that provides initial exposure to a real workplace environment and an overview of a business or industry within their career field of interest. Through job shadowing, students are able to explore careers and learn about employer expectations, obtain skills needed to be successful in their career pathway of interest, and develop relationships with employers.

While at ANHC, Greenwood and Hill learned about ANHC’s enabling legislation, environmental law, data management, computer mapping, land management, land acquisition, botany, and the ANHC Herbarium.
