Volunteers and Local Partners Participate in Lakes Appreciation Month at Devil's Eyebrow

Arkansas Natural Heritage Commission - Friday, July 28, 2017

In celebration of Lakes Appreciation Month, the ANHC partnered with the Beaver Watershed Alliance (BWA), U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Arkansas Game and Fish Commission (AGFC), and The Nature Conservancy-Arkansas (TNC) to host a volunteer cleanup day along the Beaver Lake shoreline of Devil’s Eyebrow Natural Area (NA). Nineteen volunteers participated in the event.

High water levels at Beaver Lake hindered the cleanup effort, so volunteers were treated to an educational tour, swimming, and lunch. Some volunteers also went on an additional interpretive hike with Jennifer Ogle, ANHC land management specialist, to identify trees at the natural area.

The AGFC and USACE provided boats for the volunteers. TNC allowed use of their boat dock at the neighboring Rob and Melani Walton Preserve for the event.

Devil’s Eyebrow NA is located at the northern end of Beaver Lake along Indian Creek and its tributaries. The natural area supports one of the highest concentrations of rare plant species in Arkansas.
