Darrell Bowman Named Director of the Arkansas Natural Heritage Commission

Stacy Hurst, director of the Department of Arkansas Heritage, has named Darrell Bowman as director of the Arkansas Natural Heritage Commission (ANHC). Bowman had been serving as interim director since August, when former director Chris Colclasure left to take a positon with the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission. Bowman had been deputy director of ANHC since November 2015. He was the lake ecology and fisheries manager for the Bella Vista Village Property Owners Association from 2007 – 2015; and prior to that, he worked as a fisheries biologist for the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries and the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission. Bowman holds a B.S. in fisheries and wildlife management from Arkansas Tech University and an M.S. in zoology from the University of Arkansas.

“I am pleased that Darrell is officially stepping up to lead ANHC as director,” said Hurst. “His professional experience and his passion for the preservation of Arkansas’s natural communities and rare, threatened, and endangered species are a great asset to the staff and to conservation efforts in Arkansas.” ANHC manages an extensive database on biodiversity in Arkansas as well as 71 natural areas throughout the state.

The other agencies of the Department of Arkansas Heritage are the Delta Cultural Center, Historic Arkansas Museum, Old State House Museum, Mosaic Templars Cultural Center, Arkansas Arts Council, Arkansas Historic Preservation Program and Arkansas State Archives.
